CHILD SUPPORT

The Kansas Child Support Guidelines govern how child support is allocated in Kansas. The non-custodial parent pays basic child support, a set monthly amount of money, to the custodial parent for the benefit of the child.

The custodial parent is the parent who has primary residential placement of the child or is the parent who earns less money in a case where shared residency applies. The noncustodial parent is the parent who has visitation with the child or earns more money where shared residency applies.

In other situations, the non-custodial parent has lost their job or suffered an injury that prevents them from working. We can assist our clients in modifying their child support obligations.

CHILD CUSTODY

The initial determination of custody – the first time the parents go to court and obtain a custody order – is an important part of the custody process as it establishes where the child will reside during the pendency of the case, which could be a lengthy period of time. When parents are unable to agree to custodial arrangements either at the time of the initial child custody determination or later, a judge must determine what custodial arraignment is in the best interests of the child based upon the facts presented to the judge during the child custody adjudication. This is a highly emotional time for any parent and our knowledgeable staff will help guide you through the process.

PREMARITAL AGREEMENTS

Premarital agreements are a common legal step taken before marriage. A premarital agreement establishes the property and financial rights of each spouse in the event of marriage dissolution.
